Learning Sports Betting

I spend more time at online sportsbooks than I do at online poker rooms, but I generally prefer the company of poker players over sports bettors.  I find that sports betting seems to draw a higher persentage of degenerate gamblers than poker.  Degenerate gamblers are fun to be around sometimes, but not that often.  Consequently I spend most of my forum time on poker forums vice sports betting forums.

Despite my fondness for sports betting, I am not a degenerate gambler.  In reality, I am not really betting on sports at all.  My strategy is to take whatever the sports betting market will give me in bonuses and arbitrage.  I am a risk averse gambler.  Another story for another time, perhaps.

Something that I have found surprising is the number of poker players who are seemingly intimidated by sports betting.  Poker players who have spent hundreds of hours studying Texas Hold'em books become frustrated after a few minutes of looking at the array of numbers on a betting board.

I was a little intimidated myself the first few times I looked into sports betting.  There's quite a lot of information packed into a small wagering line.  There's also a lexicon particular to sports betting that should be learned.  Strategies to grasp.  etc.  Once I decided to spend about a half hour learning what the parts of a wagering line were, though, I was hooked.  Especially when I realized that there was risk-free money to be made.

I came to that realization on my own one day, and I thought for a few minutes that I had invented something no one else had ever thought of - scalping books for bonus money.  I thought something similar once several years ago about poker bonus chasing.  I conceived the notion on my own, thought I was a genius, and then discovered that the Bonus Whores website was already in full swing.  So it was with my sportsbook scalping idea - already well-documented in some places.  Not as much as poker bonus chasing is, but I definitely was not the first person to think of sportsbook bonus chasing.

I have tried to make learning sports betting easy and fun at BullsBetting.  I have had several people tell me they learned from my site and made some easy money, so I have been somewhat successful.  I am working on another project now that I hope will make it even easier....and more comprehensive.  I hope to be able to announce it by the end of the month.
